Journal Writing: Use a Primary Journal or the paper above.
Kindergarteners: 1. Draw a picture first. Add color and details. 2. Label things in the picture. Sound out the letters. 3. Tell an adult or older sibling about the picture. 4. Child may write a sentence or 2 about the picture. Child may need help. If so, write down what s/he tells you, but have the child copy what you have written.
First Graders: 1. Draw a picture first. Add color and details. 2. What did you draw? Write a sentence or 2 about your picture. 3. Read your writing to an adult. Does it make sense? 4. Look for: =capital letters at the beginning of the sentence. =punctuation at the end.
Read outside! Choose an outdoor setting to read such as under a tree, in a hammock, on the porch or at the picnic table. Have a parent/grandparent or older sibling read to you or you read to them. Count the on your SOAR challenge!
